Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a rehabilitation specialty that uses specific exercises and equipment to help you regain or improve your physical abilities. Anyone suffering from sports or orthopaedic-related injuries can benefit from physical therapy by regaining strength and endurance.

The Physical Therapy program at the Marshall Sports Medicine Institute:

  • offers conservative treatments that relieve pain and promote healing
  • provides home exercise programs and education on injury prevention, and
  • encourages you to be a proactive participant in your rehabilitation.

The goal of our program is to maximize results, shorten recover times and prevent re-injury. As a patient, you will benefit from the strong spirit of collaboration at the Marshall Sports Medicine Institute. Physical therapists work very closely with orthopedic physicians and surgeons, as well as sports medicine specialists from other disciplines, to achieve the best outcome for you. With all disciplines under one roof, you benefit from shared expertise and experience, as well as coordinated, comprehensive care.

Conditions

While we are fortunate to work with some of the best athletes in our region, we pride ourselves in treating people of all ages and walks of life. There are many types of injuries that respond to physical therapy. The most common conditions we treat include:

  • Sports injuries
  • Repetitive/overuse injuries
  • Shoulder/rotator cuff injuries
  • Knee/hip injuries
  • Foot and ankle pain
  • Tendonitis/bursitis
  • Arthritis
  • Post-surgery care
  • Joint replacement

Patient-Centered Care

The cornerstone of our program is providing individualized attention for each client. You will receive a thorough evaluation and assessment that addresses your individual needs and establishes a treatment plan specific to your condition and individual health status, including your injury, lifestyle, age and sport/activity as well as your goals and expectations. Other individual factors, such as your movement patterns, posture and body alignment, are considered in developing the most effective customized physical therapy and rehabilitation plan for you. Just as no two patients are exactly the same, so are no two treatment plans.

Your customized treatment plan will be designed to increase strength, restore range of motion and alleviate pain. As appropriate, your plan will incorporate the most recent advancements in physical therapy, such as:

  • Manual therapy techniques
  • Joint mobilization
  • Trigger point therapy & myofascial release
  • Muscle energy techniques
  • Postural training
  • Strength, flexibility & mobility training
  • Kinesio Taping®
  • Balance/proprioceptive training
  • Post-operative rehabilitation
  • Modalities
  • Therapeutic exercise
  • Home exercise programs
  • Dry needling

During physical therapy, we continuously reassess and monitor changes and improvements in your condition so that we can modify your treatment plan accordingly. We invite and strongly encourage your active participation as it is the most effective and consistent way to achieve your goals. We provide the resources for you to take an active role in your own recovery with home exercise programs, treatment-related information and options for continuing your recovery after the formal physical therapy process has been completed.

The therapists and staff of the Marshall Sports Medicine Institute are glad you are here. Your successful rehabilitation is our top priority. To achieve the best possible outcome, a specific treatment schedule has been developed for you. To achieve the best possible results, you must attend your therapy sessions as scheduled. Because we reserve time in our schedule specifically for you, we ask your cooperation in making every effort to keep your scheduled appointments. Please take a moment to review the  guidelines we have put in place to ensure that you get the most out of your rehabilitation experience.
