Geriatric Psychiatry
Too often, changes in senior adults are accepted as just “a part of getting older,” without realizing such changes may be treatable. For example, some people may develop increasing confusion due to a medication or combination of medications that they are taking. Similarly, depressive symptoms are often incorrectly thought of as normal for older individuals, when in fact it is a very treatable condition with much potential for increased quality of life.
Our geriatric psychiatrists provide comprehensive behavioral and psychiatric evaluations and treatment for patients 65 and older, including:
- Anxiety
- Bereavement
- Bipolar disorder
- Changes in personality or behavior
- Change in life issues
- Confusion
- Depression
- Evaluation of medications in relation to behavioral symptoms
- Evaluation of capacity to manage affairs
- Insomnia
- Memory issues and dementia
- Psychosis
- Schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder
