Signs and Symptoms
- Watch for changes that don’t go away, including:
- Sores or lumps in the mouth or on the lips
- Red or white patches
- Difficulty chewing, swallowing or speaking
- Persistent sore throat or hoarseness
- Numbness or swelling
If symptoms last more than two weeks, seek evaluation.
Risk Factors
- Tobacco use
- Heavy alcohol use
- HPV infection

Treatment
Oral cancer care is tailored to each patient and may include surgery, radiation or other therapies, delivered by a multidisciplinary team. We work collaboratively with the care teams at Marshall Health Network - Edwards Cancer Institute.

Join us for free oral cancer screenings Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the ground floor atrium of the Marshall University Medical Center, 1600 Medical Center Drive in Huntington.
Open to individuals 20 and older, screenings focus on early detection, which can significantly improve outcomes.
