The administrative fellowship at Marshall Health is designed to cultivate the next generation of health care leaders, equipping participants with a comprehensive skill set and a deep understanding of the complexities within the health care industry.
The 12-month multidisciplinary program, based in Huntington, West Virginia, is designed to provide fellows with a range of experiences in strategic planning, clinical operations, ambulatory care, digital solutions, network development, facilities planning, performance improvement and patient experience. Fellows assume a contributing role on the health care management team, providing a tailored fellowship experience based on your interests and strengths.
The Marshall Health Administrative Fellowship is composed of four- and two-week rotations across the organization. Each rotation provides fellows project-based work, shadowing opportunities with department leaders and networking opportunities. Following the completion of the core rotations, the fellow may select elective rotations throughout Marshall Health that match their interests, skills and provide a well-rounded experience.
These required rotations will embed the fellow in key administrative and operational service lines. The length of rotation is subject to change based on the fellow’s primary areas of interest.

Fellows will be assigned an executive mentor at the start of the fellowship. This mentor will provide guidance and resources for the capstone project and be available for questions as fellows move through the curriculum. The fellow and mentor will establish a regular cadence for mentoring meetings.
Fellows will integrate knowledge gained throughout the curriculum to produce a strategic capstone project focused on improving current operations at Marshall Health. This project will be discussed and approved by the mentor within the first 90 days of the program.
This project provides real-world experience and outcomes for fellows to show growth and provide feedback and reflection on their fellowship experience. Fellows will have designated time to work on their project weekly. Mentors will help fellows establish benchmarks and provide guidance over the course of project development.
Prior to completion of the program, each fellow will present their project to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
