The delicate skin around your eyes can stretch over time, leading to excess skin on the upper and lower eyelids. On the upper eyelids, this can limit peripheral vision, making everyday tasks like reading or driving more difficult. On the lower eyelids, stretched skin and fatty tissue may create “bags,” giving a tired or aged appearance.
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess eyelid skin and, if needed, adjust surrounding tissue or fatty deposits. This procedure not only enhances the appearance of the eyelids, creating a more refreshed and alert look, but it can also improve vision for patients affected by drooping upper eyelid skin. Combining cosmetic and functional benefits, blepharoplasty is tailored to meet each patient’s unique needs.
Recovery is typically straightforward, with most patients resuming normal activities within 10 to 14 days. Swelling and bruising are expected in the first week and gradually subside. Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions to support your healing and help you achieve optimal results.
Eyelid lesion removal is a minor surgical procedure designed to remove growths or abnormalities from the eyelid. First, one of our board-certified ophthalmologists/eye surgeons will evaluate the lesion to determine its nature and the best course of action. During the procedure, the surgeon carefully excises the lesion along with a margin of healthy tissue to ensure complete removal. The incision is then closed with fine sutures, and patients receive detailed instructions for wound care and medications to support healing.
After surgery, follow-up appointments allow our team to monitor your healing and check for any signs of recurrence. If there is any suspicion of malignancy, a biopsy may be performed either at the time of surgery or during a separate procedure.
At Marshall Health, both blepharoplasty and eyelid lesion removal are performed as outpatient procedures at CHH Surgery Center or Three Gables Surgery Center, allowing you to return home the same day. Local anesthesia is commonly used to numb the area around the eye, although sedation or general anesthesia may be recommended in specific cases.
