Dr. Taheri is an internationally recognized physician-scientist with more than 30 years of experience managing people with endocrine and metabolic disease (e.g. type 2 diabetes) and obesity. He has a distinguished track record of establishing clinical services and research infrastructures across multiple countries. He is also well-versed in bringing key stakeholders together to achieve common goals and has contributed to several national and international policies and guidelines for diabetes and obesity.

With more than 250 publications, Dr. Taheri is ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide and has won several awards for his research and clinical care. His pioneering work was one of the first to show that sleep duration is associated with obesity, increasing recognition of sleep as an important lifestyle factor. He also received international acclaim for his clinical trial aimed at reversing diabetes in the Middle East, which showed it is possible in a significant number of patients through intensive lifestyle intervention.

The significance of Taheri’s research lies in its direct translation to patient care—bridging scientific discovery with practical, scalable solutions that improve outcomes. His work has informed more personalized and effective approaches to treating obesity and metabolic disease, particularly in populations disproportionately affected by these conditions.
