Dr. Sandeep Verma is an assistant professor of Medicine at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and a practicing gastrointestinal motility specialist with Marshall Health Network. He brings an integrated background of advanced clinical training, translational research expertise, and a strong commitment to patient-centered care.

Dr. Verma completed his internal medicine residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, followed by a dedicated fellowship in Gastrointestinal Motility at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his time at Johns Hopkins, he received comprehensive, specialized training in esophageal, gastric, and intestinal motility disorders, including diagnostic and therapeutic approaches such as manometry, pH-impedance testing, and motility-based management of complex functional gastrointestinal conditions. He now applies this advanced expertise to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with dysphagia, reflux disease, gastroparesis, IBS, chronic constipation, pelvic floor disorders and other motility-related conditions.

Prior to his clinical fellowship, Dr. Verma completed a three-year endowed Frenkil Research Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Sinai Hospital, where he conducted extensive work on the human gut microbiome—focusing on the bacteriome, mycobiome, and virome—and their roles in Clostridioides difficile infection, metabolic disease, and neurodegenerative conditions. His body of scholarship includes more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, numerous national presentations, and multiple awards such as first-place honors in the Sinai Research Competition, Poster of Distinction Award at Digestive Disease Week, the ACG Outstanding Presentation Award, and the AGA Freston Travel Award and multiple podium talks at the Digestive Disease Week meetings.

Dr. Verma has also served as a co-investigator on several clinical studies involving fecal microbiota transplantation, microbial therapeutics, and translational microbiome science. He remains active in scientific peer review and contributes to the academic community through mentorship of medical trainees and involvement in national professional societies, including AGA, ACG, AASLD, ACP and AMA.

Clinically trained in the full spectrum of gastrointestinal motility disorders, Dr. Verma aims to integrate his advanced motility expertise with his strong research background to deliver evidence-based, comprehensive, and compassionate care. He is committed to improving quality of life for patients with complex and chronic GI conditions through accurate diagnosis, individualized treatment plans and ongoing patient education.
