PROACT expands services to include primary care

12/4/2024

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Provider Response Organization for Addiction Care and Treatment (PROACT), a leading provider of addiction recovery services, announces the expansion of its offerings to include comprehensive primary care services. This integration aims to enhance the continuum of care for individuals seeking treatment for substance use disorder by addressing both physical and addiction treatment needs under one roof.

Patients with substance use disorder often have co-occurring health conditions. Integrated care ensures that these conditions are treated simultaneously, leading to better overall health outcomes.

“Access to primary care is a critical component of long-term recovery,” said Zachary H. Hansen, M.D., medical director for the division of addiction sciences and assistant professor of family and community health at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.

“By offering these services alongside the existing recovery support available at PROACT, we're able to deliver holistic care that addresses the full spectrum of our patients' health needs.”The new primary care services include routine check-ups, management of chronic conditions, immunizations and preventive care. These services are available to all current patients of the recovery program, as well as new patients with substance use disorder who are seeking a comprehensive approach to their health and well-being.

"Our goal is to remove barriers to care and support our patients on their road to recovery," said PROACT Director Michael G. Haney, LCSW, LICSW. "This expansion is a natural progression of our mission to offer personalized, compassionate care that meets the unique needs of each individual."

PROACT, located at 800 20th Street in Huntington, offers comprehensive assessment, education, intervention, addiction treatment solutions and now primary care services in a single accessible service hub. Bringing together behavioral, social and medical resources from the community, the experienced addiction medicine providers of Marshall Health Network work together at PROACT to deliver care to individuals in every stage of treatment and recovery.

Walk-ins are welcome weekdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment or referral necessary. For more information, please visit proactwv.org or call 304.691.8700.
