Marshall Health and Hoops Family Children’s Hospital expand pediatric and adolescent gynecology care teams
8/15/2022
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Health and Hoops Family Children’s Hospital (HFCH) at Cabell Huntington Hospital, a member of Mountain Health Network, welcome Courtney Crain, M.D., to their gynecology care teams. Crain will also serve as an assistant professor at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.
Crain joins Jennie Yoost, M.D., as one of only two fellowship-trained pediatric and adolescent gynecologists in West Virginia. Both specialize in treating patients with pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, concerns with development, vulvar itching, labial adhesions, straddle injuries, contraceptive counseling and many other gynecologic issues in patients aged 10 to 24.
“Our pediatric and adolescent gynecologists offer children and young women a level of service usually seen only in major metropolitan areas,” said David C. Jude, M.D., professor and chair of obstetrics and gynecology at the School of Medicine.
Crain is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG). She received her medical degree and completed her residency at Marshall University and also completed a pediatric and adolescent gynecology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
“Having access to highly specialized physicians who are trained in meeting the gynecologic needs of pediatric and adolescent girls is extremely valuable in helping Hoops Family Children’s Hospital meet the needs of patients” said Melanie Akers, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, director of HFCH.
Crain is accepting appointments and referrals at Marshall OB/GYN locations at the Marshall University Medical Center in Huntington (304-691-1400); 5170 U.S. Route 60, Suite 3400, in East Huntington (304-399-2480) and Marshall Health – Teays Valley in Scott Depot (304-691-1800).
Marshall OB/GYN, an outpatient department of Cabell Huntington Hospital, is composed of a team of 18 physicians and an occupational therapist who provide comprehensive women’s health care, including specialties such as gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (urogynecology) and maternal-fetal medicine. A Young Women’s Health & Hematology Clinic is also available at Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital with a physician referral.
