HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Several organizations are banding together with events to raise awareness for epilepsy, a central nervous system disorder that affects about 2.5 to 3 million people in the United States.
Epilepsy Awareness Walk
1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8
Learn more about epilepsy and honor loved ones battling the disease at the 2015 Epilepsy Awareness Walk. In addition to the walk, the event will feature a cake decorating competition, cake walk, kid-friendly crafts and a special appearance by "Batman." The walk will start at pond shelter #8 at Barboursville Park, Barboursville, West Virginia. For more information, contact Cynthia Krantz at 304-691-1751.
Epilepsy Awareness Symposium
3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10
This epilepsy awareness educational event will take place in the atrium of the Marshall University Medical Center. All are invited to meet neurologists from Marshall Health, learn about epilepsy, how this condition is diagnosed and the latest treatment options.
An art and essay exhibition will also take place in the atrium at the same time, highlighting the talents of people with seizures. To learn more about this event or place an item in the exhibition, call Mark Findley at 877-804-2241 or Cynthia Krantz at 304-691-1751.
These events are sponsored by Marshall Neuroscience, Cabell Huntington Hospital, the Epilepsy Foundation, Lundbeck, Supernus Pharmaceuticals and Sweet Confections Catering & Bakery and VNS Therapy. Both the walk and symposium are free and open to the public.
