CHH, Marshall Health awarded grant for breast reconstruction awareness

10/5/2015

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH), in cooperation with Marshall Health, has received a $10,000 grant from The Plastic Surgery Foundation, in recognition of the hospital’s efforts to raise awareness about the benefits of breast reconstructive surgery.

The Plastic Surgery Foundation fosters innovation to improve the quality of life of plastic surgery patients through research and development, charitable care and enhanced public awareness campaigns.

Breast reconstruction is a type of surgery for women who have had a breast or part of a breast removed due to cancer. The surgeon rebuilds the breast mound to match the size and shape of the other breast.

The organization provides a limited number of grants throughout the United States to non-profit organizations and charities who have demonstrated a commitment to increasing the awareness of breast reconstructive surgery.

According to The Plastic Surgery Foundation the goal of the grant is to “educate, engage and empower women to make the decision that is best for them following diagnosis with breast cancer.” CHH will work in partnership with Marshall Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to provide awareness and education to the community.

Marshall Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is proud to work with the only hospital in the region to be recognized for its efforts to promote awareness surrounding breast reconstructive surgery,” said Crystal Tolley, Department Administrator of Marshall Surgery. “It is important that women realize they have options after a lumpectomy or mastectomy. This award will aid us in sharing information and education.”
