Marshall Psychiatry is pleased to announce that we now offer transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) as an alternative for individuals with treatment resistant depression. TMS is a non-invasive technique provided in the outpatient clinic that uses a magnetic coil to activate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. TMS has been FDA approved for treatment resistant depression in the United States since 2008 and has been shown to be a safe and well-tolerated procedure. TMS is indicated for individuals who have either failed treatment with antidepressant medications or could not tolerate them due to side effects. TMS is not ideal for everyone with depression. Potential patients must first be evaluated by one of Marshall Psychiatry’s TMS-trained psychiatrists to determine if the procedure is right for them. To learn more or to schedule an appointment to be evaluated for TMS please contact Marshall Psychiatry by calling 304-691-1500.
