Biography
Dr. Werthammer has been a practicing neonatologist in the Division of Neonatology at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine since 1981, joining fellow neonatology pioneer, Dr. Gilbert Ratcliff, to create the first Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital, where he served as medical director for 15 years. In addition to his clinical interest in neonatology, Dr. Werthammer was chair of pediatrics for 25 years and previously served as the chief medical officer of Marshall Health from 2010 to 2016, a role he agreed to resume on an interim basis in 2023. In his current role of interim CMO, Dr. Werthammer oversees the clinical leadership of Marshall Health as well as patient safety and quality initiatives across the organization.
