Marshall Health opens new dental clinic

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – For the first time since Marshall Health opened its doors in the early 1980s as John Marshall Medical Services, the faculty practice plan of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine is serving general dentistry patients.
Marshall Health opened its first dental clinic at 1616 13th Ave., Suite 201, in Huntington early last month, one block away from Cabell Huntington Hospital. Both the proximity to the hospital and the on-site oral and maxillofacial surgeon are just two of the clinic’s benefits.
“There is such an oral health disparity in our region,” said Raj K. Khanna, DMD, M.D., an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and chair of the department of dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery at Marshall. “As a school of medicine, we are committed to working with other local dentists to help meet that need.”
In addition to offering a wide range of services from general dentistry, like dental cleanings, to advanced forms of oral surgery, such as implants and extractions, Marshall Dentistry & Oral Surgery specializes in caring for high risk and special needs populations.
In addition to Khanna, the Marshall Dentistry & Oral Surgery team includes local dentists Jonathan D. Hill, D.D.S., and Joey A. Roy, D.D.S., along with two dental residents, Andrea Hoke, D.D.S., and Malav Shah, D.D.S., both of whom are recent graduates of West Virginia University’s School of Dentistry.
“Drs. Hoke and Shah are gaining valuable expertise and training by participating in an optional residency program before going into private practice,” Khanna said.
Marshall Health invites the community to meet the dentists of Marshall Dentistry & Oral Surgery at an open house from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the clinic.
Marshall Dentistry & Oral Surgery is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For appointments, call 304-691-1247. Emergency dental care is also available 24 hours a day in collaboration with the Emergency Department at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
